Whether you are on the verge of making a move or have been living in the same place for your years, feeling safe in the place you call home is likely a key factor in deciding where to lay down roots for you and your family. But the truth of the matter is, some places are less safe than others. According to the latest data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Uniform Crime Reporting Program, an estimated 1,206,836 violent crimes occurred in the United States in 2018. And while that number is 3.3 percent less than 2017, it is a 4.4 percent increase from 2014. What’s more, certain state’s are experiencing more violent crime—defined as offenses that involve force or threat of force—than they have in years. With that, here are all 50 U.S. states ranked from least dangerous to most dangerous. And for similar data on the metropolitan level, check out The 100 Most Dangerous Cities in America.
