PCB chairman’s big statement: Asia Cup won’t happen if India reach World Test final

New Delhi: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ehsan Mani has said that the Asia Cup 2021 could be postponed if India reach the final of the World Test Championship (WTC). The Asia Cup is scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka in June this year, while the final match of the World Test Championship will also be played at Lord’s in London from June 18 to 22.

“The Asia Cup was supposed to be held last year, but it was postponed to 2021,” Ehsan Mani told media in Karachi. In the current scenario, it looks like it may not be held this year, as the final of the World Test Championship is also scheduled. Sri Lanka has said it will try to hold the tournament in June. ”

The PCB president further said, “There is a contradiction of dates between the two tournaments. We don’t think the Asia Cup will be held and it should be postponed till 2023. “

The Asia Cup was scheduled to be held in September last year, but was postponed due to the Corona epidemic. Pakistan was supposed to host the Asia Cup, but appealed to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) citing security reasons.

The Asia Cup will be played in T20 format

It is to be mentioned that like the last two times, this time too the Asia Cup will be played in T20 format. Earlier, however, it was 50 overs.
