According to the survey, India has achieved a literacy rate of 96 per cent at the primary school level.

Of these 8.9 per cent, 3.3 per cent were trained on the job, 2.5 per cent were self-trained and 2.1 per cent were hereditary and one per cent were trained from other sources.
