Trump to Woodward: My Record on Judges Is ‘Ridiculous’

President Donald Trump bragged about his record of working with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to seat new federal judges, telling journalist Bob Woodward that he is second only to George Washington in that regard.

Trump told Woodward last December during an interview that was made public Sunday evening that he and McConnell had “broken every record.”

“You know what Mitch’s biggest thing is in the whole world? His judges,” Trump said, notes The Washington Post.

Trump said that if the choice comes down to the Senate approving 10 ambassadors or one judge, McConnell “will absolutely ask me, ‘Please, let’s get the judge approved instead of 10 ambassadors.'”

During a January interview with Woodward, Trump boasted that 187 federal judges were seated during his time in office, which included one out of every four circuit judges and two Supreme Court justices.

“The only one that has a better percentage is George Washington, because he appointed 100 percent,” Trump said. “But my percentage is, you know, like, ridiculous.”

Trump has vowed to name a replacement for the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died Friday at age 87, in the coming days.
