Lindsey Graham: Democrats Destroy Judge Barrett ‘at Their Peril’

The Senate Judiciary Committee plans to hand Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., the Supreme Court nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett on Oct. 22, according to Chairman Lindsey Graham, R-S.C.

“So, we’ll start on Oct. 12, and more than half of the Supreme Court justices who have had hearings were done within 16 days or less,” Graham told “Sunday Morning Futures.” “We’ll have a day of introduction. We’ll have two days of questioning, Tuesday and Wednesday, and on the 15th we’ll begin the markup.

“We’ll hold it over for a week, and we’ll report her nomination out of the committee on Oct. 22.”

McConnnell has already vowed to bring President Donald Trump’s third SCOTUS nominee a vote on the Senate floor “this year,” and Trump called for it to be considered “without delay” even before the Nov. 3 presidential election.

“Then it will be up to Sen. McConnell as to what to do with the nomination once it comes out of committee,” Graham told host Maria Bartiromo.

“Democrats try to destroy Judge Barrett at their own peril – their base is going nuts,” he added, noting Democrats are using the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg to raise money in the waning days of the election cycle.

“The money shows the energy, and every Democratic senator is going to be under tremendous pressure to destroy Judge Barrett, and they do so at their own peril,” Graham concluded. “I think the American people will not tolerate this fine nominee to be mistreated the way Justice Kavanaugh was.”
