“Curb Your Enthusiasm” creator Larry David has married his girlfriend Ashley Underwood. The couple tied the knot on Wednesday evening in Southern California, People confirmed.
David and Underwood first met in 2017, at Sacha Baron Cohen’s birthday party. The pair were seated next to one another and hit it off immediately. Determined to keep her interested, David decided to play it cool.
“Much to her surprise I left before dessert. I was doing so well, banter-wise, I didn’t want to risk staying too long and blowing the good impression,” he told The New York Times earlier this year.
Underwood moved into David’s Pacific Palisades home in 2019 and, since the COVID-19 pandemic hit in March, have been in quarantine with David’s 26-year-old daughter, Cazzie, who he shares with ex-wife Laurie, along with 24-year-old Romy. David admitted is has not always been easy being holed up together.
“There’s not a moment in the day when there isn’t friction between at least two of us,” he told the Times. “Then when that gets resolved, two others are at each other’s throats and it’s invariably about dishes. ‘You didn’t do the dishes!’ Or ‘You didn’t help with the dishes!’ I think that is being screamed all over the world now.”
TV was also a trigger for the family.
“Another issue is the business of one of us starting a show and not waiting for the other. Huge problem!” he added. “You at least have to ask. Ashley does not ask. She starts and then it’s impossible to catch up. And I’ll catch her. I’ll walk into the room, and she’ll instantly click off the TV.”
While in quarantine, David appeared in a public service announcement encouraging all the “idiots” out and about amid the coronavirus epidemic to go home and watch TV.
“You’re hurting old people like me — well, not me. I have nothing to do with you. I’ll never see you. But, you know, other — let’s say, other old people who might be your relatives! Who the hell knows,” he said in the PSA.
“I don’t know how you’re passing that up!” David added. “Well, maybe ’cause you’re not that bright. But here it is: go home! Watch TV! That’s my advice to you.”
