Kanye West Refuses to Make New Music, Calls Himself Moses

Kanye West has social media buzzing after announcing that he would not be releasing any new music until he is freed from his current recording and publishing deals with Universal Media Group and Sony/ATV Music Publishing. The rapper then accused the music industry and NBA of being “modern day slave ships” and claimed he was “the new Moses” putting his life on the line for his people.

“I’m not putting no more music out till I’m done with my contract with Sony and Universal,” West tweeted on Monday. “On God … in Jesus name … come and get me.”

In another tweet, he wrote: “I need to see everybody’s contracts at Universal and Sony … I’m not gonna watch my people be enslaved. I’m putting my life on the line for my people. The music industry and the NBA are modern day slave ships. I’m the new Moses.”

On Tuesday, West took to twitter to share a screenshot of texts between him and an unidentified person who offered advice on how he could move forward. One suggestion to Kim Kardashian’s husband was to argue that Universal and Sony had not fully supported him and had breached contract as a result.

“If we went that route we would litigate and ask for your masters as part of the settlement,” the unidentified person, presumed to be a lawyer, wrote, adding that West could look into buying his masters.

“Remember that if you re-recorded these songs you would own these new masters outright,” the message continued. “A much more radical consideration would be to propose an entirely new relationship or joint venture with Universal. One that is equal and not sided. I am not sure you are interested in that.”

West replied that he was “not open to any form of business with Universal or Sony. “

The rapper then tweeted that artists “are starving without tours” and deserved to own their masters.

“Ima go get our masters … for all artist … pray for me,” he wrote.

“Everyone please cover me in prayer,” he added in a separate post. “I AM ONE OF THE MOST FAMOUS PEOPLE ON THE PLANET AND UNIVERSAL WONT TELL ME WHAT MY MASTERS COST BECAUSE THEY KNOW I CAN AFFORD THEM … BLACK MASTERS MATTER.”

West then shared copies of his contract to Twitter, calling for “every lawyer in the world” to view it.

“This is what me Kanye West deal looks like today,” he tweeted on Wednesday. “I PRAY IN THE NAME OF JESUS THAT IT DONT LOOK LIKE THIS TOMORROW.”
