Jim Parsons Reveals He and Husband Had Coronavirus

Jim Parsons has revealed that he and husband Todd Spiewak had the coronavirus. The “Big Bang Theory” star opened up about the experience and how he underestimated COVID-19’s symptoms on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”

“Todd and I both had it early on. It was, like, middle of March,” Parsons recalled to Fallon, according to People. “We didn’t know what it was. We thought we had colds. And then it seemed less likely, and then finally we lost our sense of smell and taste.”

Parsons explained that the symptoms were more severe than he anticipated.

“It defied the descriptions for me. I didn’t realize how completely taste and smell could be gone,” he said. “And when you’re in quarantine and there’s really nothing to do but eat, oh my God, that was brutal.”

Despite not being able to smell or taste anything, the “Boys in the Band” star admitted he still “ate everything,” which he joked was the ultimate definition “of wasted calories.”

Parsons and Spiewak, who got married in 2017, have since made a full recovery from the coronavirus. They have been isolating at home together, but being in quarantine forced the couple to find ways to amuse themselves. Bleaching Parsons’ hair was one way to stay entertained.

“About six weeks in, and we had been sick, I thought, ‘Screw it!'” Parsons said of dyeing his hair. “Todd did it. It took about six hours and it burned my scalp. But you know what, beauty is pain.”

Earlier this month “How I Met Your Mother” star Neil Patrick Harris revealed on the “Today” show that his entire family also had the coronavirus.

“It happened very early, like late March, early April,” the actor said of the illness, which he, husband David Burtka, and 9-year-old twins Harper and Gideon, contracted. “We were doing our best before, and I thought I had the flu, and I didn’t want to be paranoid about it. And then I lost my sense of taste and smell, which was a big indicator, so we holed up.”

Harris said the experience was “not pleasant” but they managed to recover and are “feeling great.”
