He will send a letter to the central government regarding the ban on onion exports


Members of the state cabinet on Wednesday expressed strong sentiments over the onion export ban. In this regard, a letter will be sent to the Center immediately and efforts will be made to lift the export ban by following up, said Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Food and Civil Supplies Minister, Chhagan Bhujbal, Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat expressed their views in this regard. Principal Secretary Anup Kumar informed that 21.83 lakh metric tonnes of onion was exported in 2018-19 and 18.50 lakh metric tonnes in 2019-20. Minister Eknath Shinde said that 4 lakh metric tonnes of onions are currently lying in the JNPT. About 500 trucks are parked on the border between Bangladesh and Nepal.
