‘Defund the Police’ Supporter Alyssa Milano Calls 911 After Gunman Incident

Actress Alyssa Milano, who has advocated to “defund the police,” didn’t hesitate to call 911 for help when she thought an armed gunman was on her California property.

The Daily Mail reports Milano and her husband dialed 911 on Sunday morning after they heard what they thought sounded like gunshots on their property. They told the emergency operator the noise “scared their dogs” and they thought the gunman was nearby.

Their request for help resulted in about seven Ventura County Sheriffs’ vehicles, one K-9 unit, a police helicopter, and one Los Angeles Fire Department team responding to the call, according to photos of the scene obtained by Daily Mail.

According to the Daily Mail, a description of a suspect who was “male, 40-years old, with a long rifle” was provided to police. The couple said they were worried someone may be stalking Milano. She has filed restraining orders against an alleged stalker who tried to break into her home twice in the past, according to the outlet.

The shooter wound up being a “neighborhood teen with an air gun shooting at squirrels,” a resident told the outlet.

But the search for the shooter lasted over three hours before it came to an end.

“We first noticed the helicopter circling overhead very low and knew something was going on, it’s usually such a quiet community,” a neighbor told the outlet. “Then we saw all the police cars parked in front of Alyssa’s home. They had their guns at the ready and seemed very serious.”

The teenager shooting the squirrels turned himself in when he realized he was the cause for the police presence, according to Daily Mail. Officers then met with some of the neighbors to confirm the incident was just “Squirrelgate.”

The actress has been vocal in her support for the movement that calls for defunding the police. In July, she tweeted a link asking her followings to sign the “People’s Budget L.A.,” which called for a 90% reduction in police funding.

In August, she tweeted, “#DefundThePolice.”

The incident has people calling her a hypocrite.

“She can tweet those things because at the end of the day she lives behind gates in a gated community,” a neighbor told Daily Mail. “She knows the police will come to save her. But what about all those people who don’t have that luxury and live in unsafe neighborhoods? She obviously doesn’t care.”

The neighbor added that Milano “uses her platform in hypocritical ways.”

“I would guesstimate the response today from law enforcement cost tax payers thousands of dollars,” the neighbor said.
