Nearly 40% of college students said they would protest if President Donald Trump wins reelection next month.
Results from the College Reaction survey, conducted for Axios:
- A combined 39% of college students said they are “likely” or “absolutely certain” to protest should Trump win a second term in office.
- 30% said they “absolutely will not” protest and 31% said they are “not likely” to protest.
- 3% said they would protest if Democrat Joe Biden wins the election.
- 61% said they would “definitely” or “probably” confront or convey disappointment toward someone they know who chooses not to vote in the election.
“Political expression is etched into this generation’s DNA,” College Reaction founder Cyrus Beschloss told Axios. “Vote-hooky won’t just draw side-eye, it could bruise a student’s reputation in some social circles. Civic engagement is cool now.”
The poll was conducted from Oct. 6-7 among 875 college students. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.3 percentage points.
