Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden is standing firm on his claim he will not stop fracking in Pennsylvania, despite President Donald Trump calling the former vice president a liar who wants to get rid of the practice, according to Fox News.
“I’m not shutting down oil fields, I’m not eliminating fracking,” Biden told reporters Monday. “I’m investing in clean energy and I’m going to make sure that we don’t continue to subsidize the oil companies.”
Biden has clarified he does not want the oil industry brought to an immediate halt, but he does want to bring an end to fossil fuel subsidies and new permits for public lands. To fight climate change, Biden wants to slowly shift the country to renewable energy by 2050.
Trump has seized on Biden’s stance against fossil fuel in the last debate.
The president attacked Biden’s anti-oil position while addressing a crowd in Pennsylvania, a state with an economy largely dependent on fracking.
“Last week, sleepy Joe Biden made perhaps the most shocking admission ever uttered in the history of presidential debates – and in other words, he blew it on live television,” Trump told supporters in Allentown, Pennsylvania, his first stop in the state Monday. He later tweeted the same comment.
