Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar directed to immediately sanction Rs 50 crore for acquisition of 34 hectares of private land for Boramani Airport near Solapur city and to complete the deforestation process of 32 hectares of forest land required for the airport.
A special meeting was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on the issues of Solapur’s Boramani Airport in the Committee Hall of the Deputy Chief Minister’s Office. Solapur’s Guardian Minister and Minister of State for Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Dattatraya Bharane, MLA Praniti Shinde, Additional Chief Secretary of Planning Department Debashish Chakraborty, Principal Secretary of Forest Department Milind Mhaiskar, Principal Secretary of General Administration (Aviation) Valsa Nair Singh, District Collector of Solapur Milind Shambharkar, Maharashtra Airport Authority Senior officials of Hindustani Airports Authority were present on the occasion.
The city of Solapur currently has an airport at Hotgi, but this airport is currently being used for non-scheduled flights. But this airport is small and not suitable for A-320 and other types of aircraft. Also, as the airport is in the city, it is not possible to expand the airport due to the sugar factories and urban settlements near the airport, the Hindustani Airport Authority has already clarified. Therefore, new green field airports are being developed at Boramani and Tandulwadi along the Solapur-Hyderabad National Highway at a distance of about 13 km from the city of Solapur. The project will be built on public-private partnership basis. Accordingly, Maharashtra Aviation Development Company has completed the acquisition of about 549 hectares of land at Boramani-Tandulwadi. Funding was required for land acquisition of the remaining about 34 hectares of private land. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar immediately sanctioned a fund of Rs 50 crore for land acquisition of this land. This will enable farmers and landowners to get fair compensation for their land. He also directed to complete the process of deforestation of 32 hectares of forest land required for the project in coordination with the Nagpur Forest Department office. The airport will provide air connectivity to important cities like Solapur and will add to the city’s progress.
