Civil Aviation Secretary Pradeep Singh Kharola said, “The process of privatization of 6 to 10 airports under the third phase will begin soon. Profitable and non-profitable airports are being combined to bid this time. The government believes that after privatization, there will be profit in passenger facilities at the airport. The aim is to provide world-class facilities to the passengers. Let me tell you that in Budget 2021, a provision of Rs. 600 crore has been made to increase regional connectivity, which is 35% more than last year. AAI has raised Rs 2,100 crore from the market to meet its capital expenditure, Kharola said.

The Center is also preparing for privatization of ports

The central government is now preparing for the privatization of ports like railways and airports. The central government’s plan is to hand over the management of ports to private hands. “This will help the government raise funds and offset the financial losses,” the sources said. However, the government has not yet issued an official statement on the privatization of the ports. Let me tell you that there are 13 major ports and approximately 200 small ports in the coastal areas of India. Large ports are managed by the Central Government and small ports by the State Government.
