Who is Monica Rambeau? WandaVision character explained

Who is Monica Rambeau? Let’s get the WandaVision character explained in the wake of the finale. Audiences have seen her in the MCU before.

Although the WandaVision finale is upon us, this certainly isn’t the last you’ll be seeing of Monica Rambeau.

Created by Jac Schaeffer, the series takes place in the MCU after the events of Avengers: Endgame and has attracted speculation since it premiered back in January 2021.

At first, some audiences were confused by the series’ prominent sitcom influences and quickly began trying to decode and decipher what was going on in Westview, NJ with Wanda and Vision.

Over the weeks, the veil of this suburban life has gradually been lifted and the finale – aptly titled ‘The Series Finale’ – has given audiences expectations for the future of Monica Rambeau.

Played by Teyonah Parris, the character has been a mysterious presence from the start, so who is Monica Rambeau exactly?

Who is Monica Rambeau?

Within the MCU, Monica is the daughter of Maria Rambeau, a United States Air Force Pilot and founder of S.W.O.R.D. She appeared in Captain Marvel and struck up a friendship with Carol Danvers before she became Captain Marvel.

They say goodbye at the end of the film and we next see her in WandaVision, mourning the loss of her mother before she teams up with S.W.O.R.D., which was founded by Maria.

In the first episode of WandaVision, we’re introduced to her as Geraldine, as her mind is actually being controlled by Wanda, making her believe she is someone else. However, she was later banished from the suburb and back to the organisation.

As highlighted by Inside the Magic, Monica has become an integral component in the MCU but wasn’t initially set to be in WandaVision. However, considering her “Spectrum” character was alongside Scarlet Witch in the comics, they ushered her into the series.

She has been through the Hex barrier a few times which has resulted in her DNA being rewritten. Monica is able to pick up electromagnetic spectrum vibrations and she can absorb energy, which gives her eyes a blue appearance.

In the show, Darcy tells her: “You’ve gone through the boundary twice already, Monica. The energy inside has re-written your cells on a molecular level twice. It’s changing you.” Indeed, it certainly is, creating a powerful figure no longer human or enslaved by Wanda.

Although the pair have fought and clashed, it’s suggested that Wanda and Monica will have to work together to take on the villains ahead, with the likes of White Vision, Agatha Harkness and beyond posing a significant threat.

In the mid-credits scene of the finale, Monica is told that a friend of her mother’s wants to meet…

Kevin Feige talks Monica Rambeau

Monica Rambeau is set to appear in the forthcoming Captain Marvel 2 and Kevin Feige – Marvel Studios’ chief – has previously addressed the character’s role in the MCU going ahead:

“We always knew that Monica would have a future within the MCU. The ability to further meet her as Teyonah Parris in this series, before the movie, was this organic shift.”

Reflecting on her role in WandaVision, he added: “The notion of Monica Rambeau in this series was very natural; needing a particular type of role and a particular type of storytelling device, that at Marvel can become more than that if we make it a character that we know we have stories for. That unlocked a whole new aspect of the show.”
