Who is Dora’s boyfriend? Who is her cousin? The explorer’s connection to Diego explained – HITC

Who is Dora’s boyfriend and who is her cousin? There has been some confusion about the explorer’s connection to Diego, so let’s get it explained.

Whether you’re 5 or 50, there’s a pretty high chance that you’re going to be familiar with Dora the Explorer.

You may have watched it as a kid, with your kids or simply seen it around in passing, perhaps on a TV at the house of friends or family.

Even if you haven’t seen it, you may find that its imagery has been pretty inescapable.

Created by Chris Gifford, Valerie Walsh Valdes and Eric Weiner, the series has been entrenched in popular culture for two decades now, first premiering on Nickelodeon back in August 2000.

The titular explorer, Boots, Backpack, Swiper and a host of other characters have become instantly recognisable to many as the show’s popularity has persisted, as has Diego.

But who exactly is he to Dora?

Who is Dora’s boyfriend? Who is her cousin?

  • Dora the Explorer doesn’t have a boyfriend and Diego Márquez is actually her cousin.

Some have felt uncertain of the 8-year-old’s relationship to Dora after having a quick Google.

The confusion stems from googling “who is Dora’s cousin” and “who is Dora’s boyfriend”, as Diego is displayed as the search result and answer to both questions.

Dora the Explorer Fandom confirms that Diego is her cousin, not boyfriend.

However, it has never actually been confirmed how they’re both related in the show, but it’s presumed that their dads are brothers and they are first cousins.

Diego was introduced in season 3 episode 2, which aired in October 2003. Then, in 2005, Diego was the focus of a new show – Go, Diego, Go! – which came to an end in 2011.

Twitter reactions continue

People continue to discover that the animated pair are actually cousins and not a couple.

How old is Dora the Explorer?

Dora has aged throughout the character’s history.

In the first five seasons – between 2000 and 2010 – she was 7-years-old. However, she was aged 8 through seasons 6 to 8.

Then, the Fandom notes that she was aged 10 in Dora and Friends.

On the other hand, she was 16 in her live-action debut, Dora and the Lost City of Gold, which saw Isabela Moner cast in the titular role.
