Let’s talk Helstrom filming locations as the series arrives on Hulu. Where was it filmed? Marvel fans won’t want to miss out on this one.
Who is your favourite on-screen Marvel character?
Over the years, many people’s favourites have been influenced by portrayals within the MCU, with the likes of Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Brie Larson, Chris Evans and of course, the late Chadwick Boseman, delivering exceptional performances and defining the characters for a new generation.
Then we have stars like Tobey Maguire, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry and more who helped usher in the superhero craze which has remained with blockbuster cinema ever since.
On the other hand, many heroes have been brought to us over on the small screen and comic book fans will surely be glad to see more obscure characters finally getting some screen treatment…
Helstrom arrives on Hulu
The latest to soar onto screens are Daimon and Satana Helstrom, children of a powerful serial killer.
They first appeared in Marvel Comics back in 1973 and have now been brought to life again in a series on Hulu; it is not connected to the MCU.
Elizabeth Marvel stars as Ana – yes, a little name change – while Tom Austen tackles the part of Daimon.
The first season landed on the streaming service on Friday, October 16th 2020 and boasts 10 episodes in total.
Now, let’s talk locations!
Helstrom filming locations: Where was it filmed?
- Helstrom was filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, as well as the surrounding British Columbia area.
While little else is known about specific filming locations, it’s worth noting that a number of comic book adaptations have filmed in Vancouver.
According to Tourism Vancouver, these include such TV shows as Arrow and Smallville. As for TV in general, there’s also the likes of Riverdale, Bates Motel, Orphan Black and Lucifer.
On the other hand, films which have shot there include Fantastic Four, Deadpool, Deadpool 2, X-Men, Ghost Rider, Watchmen and Man of Steel.
So, the city clearly has a rich cinematic history which makes it an appealing location to flock to for filming.
Helstrom cast on their characters
In an interview with ScreenRant, stars Elizabeth Marvel (she plays Victoria Helstrom) and Robert Wisdom (Caretaker) were asked about their performances and whether they consciously branched out from the source material with their characterisation.
Elizabeth Marvel explained: “I had a lot of room to play, because Victoria is introduced in Son of Satan, but it’s mainly backstory [for the] Church of Dresden story. It’s not in this moment moving forward. So, I really got to create as we went along. I had a lot of room.”
As for Robert Wisdom, he revealed:
“… there were no reins on it. I remember on the first day, in the first scene, we took an extra amount of time because I pitched the character high, I pitched the character low, I came down the middle… Just trying to find where he lived. There was a joke being set up, and at first I was playing the joke. And then it was like, ‘No, just get behind it.’ So, we got behind it and dried it out, and then that’s where the character lives. It’s like, ‘Oh, he’s real dry’.”
We hope you’re enjoying it!
