Room 2806: The Accusation arrived on Netflix on December 7th, 2020.
The four-part docuseries tells the story of the 2011 case between French politician and finance supremo Dominique Straus-Kahn and hotel maid Nafissatou Diallo.
On May 14th, 2011, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, who was the head of the International Monetary Fund and a leading candidate for the 2012 French presidential election, was arrested on allegations of sexual assault following accusations by Nafissatou Diallo, a maid at New York’s Sofitel hotel.
Who is Nafissatou Diallo?
Nafissatou Diallo was born on August 18th, 1978 in Conakry, the capital city of Guinea in West Africa.
She moved to the United States in 2003 as part of an asylum programme in the hopes of a better life for herself and her daughter.
By 2011, 32-year-old Nafissatou had a steady job working as a maid in New York’s Sofitel hotel and lived in the Bronx area of the city.
However, on May 14th, 2011, Nafissatou became embroiled in a months-long legal battle after she alleged that Dominique Strauss-Kahn had sexually assaulted her in room 2806 in the Sofitel hotel.
Despite the evidence at the scene, her interview with police officers and medical records all offering a strong case according to The Cinemaholic, the case against Dominique Strauss-Kahn was eventually dismissed in August 2011 over inconsistencies in Nafissatou’s testimony and a lack of concrete evidence.
More legal battles followed, however, most notably in May 2012 when Dominique Strauss-Kahn filed a countersuit against Nafissatou for costing him his job as the head of the International Monetary Fund and ‘other professional opportunities,’ as he had been a candidate to run in the 2012 French presidential elections.
Eventually, on December 10th, 2012, the various lawsuits and countersuits were settled with Nafissatou Diallo receiving an undisclosed amount, later reported to be $1.5 million.
Where is Nafissatou Diallo now?
Today, 42-year-old Nafissatou Diallo still lives in the Bronx area of New York.
While preferring to remain out of the spotlight, Nafissatou has reportedly opened a restaurant, Chez Amina, on Boston Road in the Bronx according to The Cinemaholic.
The publication writes that Nafissatou’s restaurant offers a six-page menu of more than 100 items and combines West African, Spanish and American cuisine.
Room 2806: The Accusation is available to stream now on Netflix after releasing on December 7th, 2020.
