The Orissa Society of the UK is becoming a temple of Lord Jagannath in London. This temple will be very similar to the Jagannath temple in Orissa. Jagannath Puri is one of the four dhams of the Sanatan tradition. Govardhan Math is one of the four peethas established by Shankaracharya. Jagannath devotees from all over the world are being connected by creating a trust for the temple. The cost of the temple is around 40 40 million (about Rs 40 crore), which will be raised through donations. Land is currently being sought in Greater London. The Orissa Society of the UK recently announced this at its annual festival. The design of the temple will be the same as the Puri temple. Society members have only joined people living in Britain for initial expenses. The Society plans to involve Oriya people from all over the world and devotees of Lord Jagannath in the trust created for the construction of the temple. The society plans to start construction of the temple soon and complete it by 2024 anyway. Although there is already a Jagannath temple in London, it is small and now the society wants to spread the traditions of Orissa called Jagannath culture all over the world. It will be built not just as a temple, but as a center of Orissa civilization.
