Release date predictions for Netflix’s hit Korean series – HITC

Netflix’s latest Korean series ‘Sweet Home’ is a global hit, but if the series is renewed for season 2, what date could it release on the streaming platform?

It may have been a pretty rough year for everyone, but 2020 has been fantastic for fans of Korean dramas on Netflix.

The platforms latest hit show is ‘Sweet Home’, a horror series that is arguably one of the best of the entire year.

Season 1 ended on a thrilling, if not slightly confusing note, but now fans have to look ahead to the future.

Will Sweet Home be renewed by Netflix for season 2 and if so, what date could the series return?

Will there be a Sweet Home season 2?

At the time of writing, Sweet Home has not been renewed for a second season by Netflix. However, the Korean series is almost guaranteed to get a second chapter because of its popularity around the world.

Whilst Netflix does not release the official viewing statistics for their series, we can gauge how popular Sweet Home through other platforms. Currently, Sweet Home is scoring a 7.4/10 on IMDB and an 89% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Even a brief scroll through social media will demonstrate just how popular this series has been with fans around the world.

Interestingly, the director of Sweet Home hinted at the possibility of a second season at a press conference earlier this month.

“While we were writing, we completed the end of the storyline ourselves, so there are a couple things that came out after we were done,” he revealed. “If the opportunity arises, we want to also introduce the monsters that we weren’t able to. We want to stay true to the original.” – Lee Eung-bok, via Bustle.

Sweet Home season 2 release date…

  • A release date for Sweet Home season 2 has not been officially confirmed, but fans shouldn’t expect the Korean series to return to Netflix until 2022.

Unfortunately, fans may have to wait a long time for Sweet Home to return to Netflix and this is because of the incredible production the series experiences.

Sweet Home is an adaptation of the incredibly popular Line Webtoon, but the Netflix series didn’t stick completely to the original. According to a translated version of an interview on Reddit, the authors didn’t “follow 100% of [the] Webtoon story” as they wanted to explore “different perspectives.”

This means that production on a second season would have to wait until such a storyline and script can be created that can match season 1. As you can imagine with such complex characters and a well-crafted narrative as in Sweet Home, this will likely take several months to complete.

Then we have the fact that season 1 took over eight months to film, with production being limited in its final weeks because of the pandemic. Assuming that season 2 will experience a similarly intense production-schedule, filming may not be completed until the end of 2021.

An optimistic prediction would be for December 2021 but considering the production of Sweet Home, a 2022 release for season 2 on Netflix is the more realistic prediction.

This article will be updated as soon as more information on season 2 is revealed.
