Virk is a familiar name in the internet media sector of Pakistan. He has more than a thousand volunteers to promote ultra-nationalism on Twitter. Whenever tensions between India and Pakistan escalate, Virk’s entire team is looking to refute the allegations leveled by New Delhi.
Virk claims he can trend any hashtag nationally. Virk retains a Twitter handle named ‘Team Imran Khan’. Al Jazeera’s Hasham Cheema not only explores Virk’s inner workings, but also seeks to understand how algorithms help advance Pakistan’s agenda. Whatever attacks are made on Vic’s opponents, the team shares none of Imran Khan’s phone calls and then the hashtag attack has started. Vic has two Twitter accounts and three lakh followers.
