Mike Rowe discusses why show was cancelled

Returning the Favor has been cancelled by Facebook and host Mike Rowe has taken to social media to discuss why the show was not renewed.

Since it began airing on Facebook Watch in 2017, Returning the Favor has been a welcome treat for millions of viewers.

However, after four seasons and 105 episodes, it was announced on January 27th, 2021 that the feel-good show had been cancelled.

The news has clearly not been popular with fans but now, Returning the Favor’s host, Mike Rowe, has taken to Facebook to discuss the potential reasons behind the show’s cancellation.

Returning the Favor on Facebook Watch

Returning the Favor was first shown on Facebook Watch in August 2017 and in the three and a half years since, more than 100 episodes have been aired.

The feel-good series saw host Mike Rowe showcasing some of America’s most extraordinary and generous people and how they give up their time, money and effort to help their local community.

Returning the Favor cancelled

On January 27th, 2021, it was announced that Returning the Favor would not be renewed for a fifth season and that it had been cancelled.

Writing in a Facebook post, host Mike Rowe said: “I’m afraid I come with sad tidings. After four years of hosting a show like no other, I’m sorry to announce that Returning the Favor has come to an end. I received a phone call yesterday from Facebook, telling me that RTF would not be back for another season.”

The news was devastating for Returning the Favor’s 2.5 million fans, many of whom quickly began speculating the reason behind the show’s cancellation.

On February 1st, Mike Rowe posted again to clear up any misunderstanding: “Like you and many others, I was surprised by Facebook’s decision to cancel the show.

“Returning the Favor seems tailor-made for times like these, with a loyal fan base that’s both large and very engaged. It is perplexing.

“For what it’s worth, though, I don’t feel as though I’ve been treated unfairly. I think, after a hundred episodes, Facebook simply wanted to invest in other projects. Yes, they’re a very wealthy company, but budgets are budgets, and this show was not cheap to produce. In other words, Facebook didn’t cancel me, they cancelled my show”
