The One Ring has been trending on Twitter recently alongside a poster but is it really the name of Amazon Prime’s The Lord of the Rings series?
Amazon Prime’s The Lord of the Rings is one of the most highly anticipated TV series currently in the works.
Ever since the series was announced, information about it was thin on the ground but in February 2021, a Twitter trend has got fans all excited.
The trends appeared to suggest that the series would be given the name, The One Ring, as a poster emerged online featuring that title alongside a hooded Ringwraith.
But is there any truth to the name?
The Lord of the Rings on Prime
It was first announced that Amazon had splashed out a reported $250 million to acquire the rights to The Lord of the Rings in November 2017.
In the years since, slivers of information have emerged including the time period the series will be set in, its cast, team of writers and synopsis.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the series had been slated to arrive at some point in 2021 but whether that will be the case, with Covid-related filming delays halting production for much of 2020, remains to be seen.
The One Ring trends on Twitter
One of the key pieces of information we don’t know about the series yet is its title.
Will it simply be called The Lord of the Rings or will it be given its own bespoke title?
In February/March 2021, a Twitter trend seemed to hint that it may be the latter.
Thanks to the poster below, which has appeared across several social media sites, fans were led to believe that Amazon’s series would be titled The One Ring.
The title is fitting as it could show us the forging of the Ring of Power by Sauron which took place in the Second Age of Middle-earth, the same era in which the series is set.
The poster is fan-made
However, the poster in question is fan-made and is not an official release from Amazon or its Lord of the Rings social media accounts, which have largely laid dormant in recent months.
Instead, the poster and title are the work of the Instagram fan account ‘middlearth_family‘ as can be seen on the poster itself, just above the Prime Video logo.
Unfortunately, it looks like fans will have to wait a little longer to learn more about Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings.
Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings is currently in production in New Zealand and is expected to air in 2021, although no release date has been confirmed.
