A recent social media post following the Mr Potato Head debate has triggered fears that Paw Patrol and the character, Chase, have been cancelled.
Paw Patrol has been one of the most popular kids TV shows on the planet since it first arrived on our screens in 2013.
The pup-based series follows a selection of essential worker dogs, from a paramedic pup to a construction worker canine as they help the people of Adventure Bay alongside their best friend and human, 10-year-old Ryder.
Recently, however, the adorable kids’ show has been involved in social media controversy, most notably following the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020 and more recently after Mr Potato Head’s gender-neutral rebranding.
A social media post after the latter has sparked fears that Paw Patrol and the character, Chase, have been cancelled.
Paw Patrol’s cancelled controversy
In the summer of 2020, following the death of George Floyd and the emerging Black Lives Matter movement, a number of films, TV shows and brands took centre-stage in a debate about inappropriate portrayals of characters or stereotypes.
This included the portrayal of police officers in films and TV shows, some of which were cancelled, in a debate about police brutality.
As a police dog, the Paw Patrol character of Chase became a target of cancellation calls on social media but it must be said that many of the posts demanding Chase’s removal from Paw Patrol came in jest.
Apart from the dark portrayal from one story in the satirical publication, The Onion, the show is harmless and if anything, teaches kids how the police and rescue services should act and sets a good example for kids.
In a recent social media post following the rebranding of Mr Potato head, the Chase debate has reignited after the Paw Patrol character was featured in a list of ‘cancelled’ characters and brands from the past year.
Is Paw Patrol cancelled?
- No, Paw Patrol and the character of Chase are not being properly cancelled.
Parents need not fear that their child’s favourite show is being removed from our screens as it’s not happening.
The calls coming for the show to be cancelled were, for the most part, jokes, seemingly from people who simply dislike the show itself.
There has been nothing to suggest that Paw Patrol or the character of Chase will be pulled from our screens.
Paw Patrol season 7 is currently airing while a feature-length film, Paw Patrol: The Movie is set to release in August 2021.
