iCarly will be rebooting in 2021, but fans want to know if Jennette McCurdy will be there.
The revival was first reported by TV Line, who learned that Paramount+ streaming service has ordered the revival. CBS All Access is set to rebrand as Paramount+ in 2021 and will combine content from CBS, MTV, Comedy Central, BET, Paramount Network and Nickelodeon.
iCarly originally aired between 2007 and 2012 and followed the story of best friends creating a webcast aka a vlog. The show led to spin off Sam and Cat too, producing stars like Ariana Grande. Jennette McCurdy played Sam in iCarly and Sam and Cat, but fans are eager to know if she will be in the revival.
Unfortunately for fans, it’s looking unlikely that the actress will reprise her role in iCarly, with no mention from either reports or Jennette McCurdy herself about it. Cast like Miranda Cosgrave and Jerry Trainor are named in the line-up.
Jennette McCurdy quit acting after iCarly
It’s unsurprising that she won’t be taking part in iCarly, seeing as she quit acting in 2016 after facing trauma throughout her career. She said to Elite Daily: “I had to kind of fight the demons on my own time. I went dark. I went off of social media. I quit acting. I had to make these pretty big life decisions in order to deal with my stuff, my life.”
She also explains that she turned to alcohol before quitting acting. On iCarly specifically, Jennette McCurdy said: “I still have complicated feelings toward my past from my experience with Nickelodeon. It’s something that I work on. I’d like to get to a place of peace with my past. That would be great.”
Although she never explicitly confirmed why her experience with Nickelodeon was so bad, she wrote about suffering with an eating disorder in 2019 and documented how the industry heightened her bulimia while affecting her self-worth. She also stated that she wasn’t happy with her contribution to society being: “walking onto an over-lit Nickelodeon set shouting lines about fried chicken.”
Just a week ago, Jennette uploaded a TikTok with text reading: “Wondering what it would have been like to have had a healthy, non-traumatic childhood.”
What is she doing now?
She might not be acting anymore, but she does have her own one woman show titled ‘I’m Glad My Mom Died’ which has been postponed due to the pandemic.
Jennette McCurdy also has her own podcast called Empty Inside which invites guests on to talk about difficult topics.
On TikTok she has 2.6 million followers and regularly uploads comedic videos.
