Is a Big Sky season 2 release date confirmed? Renewal status of ABC series – HITC

Is a Big Sky season 2 release date confirmed? Let’s consider the renewal status of the ABC series as audiences begin to look ahead.

Much more time has arguably been spent watching TV in 2020 than ever before and it’s not exactly difficult to determine why.

Fortunately, the new decade has ushered in a wealth of impressive shows already, with streaming services like Netflix striking a chord with the likes of The Queen’s Gambit, while broadcasters continue with familiar favourites.

Many audiences found themselves immediately impressed with Big Sky, which is based on C.J. Box’s 2013 novel, The Highway.

Created by David E. Kelley, the series premiered on ABC back in November 2020 and introduced viewers to performances from the likes of Katheryn Winnick, Kylie Bunbury, Natalie Alyn Lind and more.

Fans have been compelled to question whether this race against the clock tale of detectives and kidnappings will return for a second season.

So, has Big Sky been renewed for season 2?

Is a Big Sky season 2 release date confirmed?

  • No, a release date for Big Sky season 2 is yet to be confirmed. ABC hasn’t officially renewed the series for another season.

However, fans have a reason to be optimistic…

As highlighted by Variety, season 1 was initially intended to consist of only ten episodes. However, ABC ordered an additional six episodes for season 1, bringing it up to 16.

The network ordered the extension three episodes into the season, and it’s likely that the decision was made in response to impressive ratings. For example, after a week of delayed viewing, the series premiere attracted 10.8 million total viewers, along with a 2.5 rating among adults 18-49.

As a result, Big Sky became ABC’s most-watched – but also highest-rated – series debut since The Rookie.

While renewal is yet to be announced, it’s likely that ABC will wish to expand on the show’s success with a follow-up season.

Perhaps the additional episodes were added in order to help establish the set-up for more narrative.
