The Behind Her Eyes ending shocked readers everywhere, but how exactly does the book end? Warning, this article contains spoilers.
Netflix has already delivered a number of new series in 2021 and they recently unveiled the trailer for a brand new miniseries called Behind her Eyes.
Created by Steve Lightfoot, it is based on the 2017 novel of the same name by Sarah Pinborough.
It’s scheduled to be released on Wednesday, February 17th 2021 and anticipation is already very high, partly because Netflix teased a significant shock in store on their Twitter.
Sharing a trailer for the show, they captioned the tweet: “Behind Her Eyes is a new thriller based on the best-selling book… yes, the book with THAT ending.”
The ending has been discussed, debated and scrutinised endlessly since the novel was published, and considering it has been acknowledged in the marketing, some potential audiences can’t wait until the 17th to find out what it is.
So, let’s talk about the Behind her Eyes ending.
Behind Her Eyes ending: How does the book end?
To understand the ending, one must have context.
The plot of Behind Her Eyes centres on Louise, a single mother who works as a secretary.
While spending an evening in a bar, she strikes up a conversation with a stranger, David, and they share a kiss. However, it’s revealed that this mysterious stranger is the new boss at the company she works for.
It turns out that David is married and he assures Louise that he made a mistake that night. Nevertheless, he continues to harbour feelings and desires for her. Meanwhile, Louise embarks upon a friendship with David’s wife, Adele.
It’s established that something sinister may be going on behind the scenes; a twisted truth behind the marriage that comes to light in the end. How is Adele’s friends Rob involved?
Well, we learn that Rob switched bodies with Adele before mysteriously passing away. He had met David while they were getting treatment at a psychiatric facility and swiftly became obsessed with him.
Then, after he switched bodies with Adele, he killed himself (as Adele) and switched bodies with Louise before the death. So, it wasn’t the person inhabiting Adele who died, but Louise.
We then end on Louise and David getting married, with the soul of another inside her planning to kill her son.
