There have been a series of easter eggs that suggest that Vinland Saga season 2 is already in production, but has an official release date been confirmed?
2019 was an incredible year for anime and arguably one of the best new series to premiere was ‘Vinland Saga’.
The series had almost everything that fans of action anime could hope for: well-choreographed fight sequences, superb character development and possibly one of the best-written villains of all time – not to mention an incredible opening song by Survive Said The Profit.
Now, the production team behind Vinland Saga have dropped some hints about season 2 and when the epic Viking anime could return.
Will there be a season 2 of Vinland Saga?
- At the time of writing, Vinland Saga has not been officially renewed for season 2, but recently released easter eggs do suggest that it is in development.
Whilst we may not have an official confirmation that Vinland Saga will return for a second season, there have been a lot of exciting hints being dropped from the production team.
On September 22nd, director of Vinland Saga Shuhei Yabuta tweeted three images of the main characters and asked fans of the series to decipher “a small easter egg.” In the bottom corners of each image, there are Nordic runes and fans have figured out that each rune, when translated to English, says “Sea Son Two.”
There is also some Japanese text from a conversation between the characters, with Thorfinn asking “How long must we wait?” to which Askeladd replies “That’s why I hate kids…” with Canute adding, “It’s soon…I guess…”
This easter egg may suggest that season 2 is being produced, but with how popular the first part of the Vinland Saga was, this is not particularly surprising for fans – the series currently scores an incredible 8.72/10 on MyAnimeList and 8.8/10 on IMDB. Plus, with how open-ended the season 1 conclusion was, a sequel instalment was all-but-guaranteed.
Vinland Saga season 2 release date…
As Vinland Saga is yet to be officially renewed, a release date for the second season has not yet been revealed, but is likely to premiere in late-2021.
Whilst the easter eggs do suggest that a potential season 2 premiere is on the horizon, there is a possibility that the production schedule for WIT Studio, the team behind Vinland Saga, could push back the potential release.
According to Monsters & Critics, the studio is already working on the Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress feature film and the upcoming Vampire In The Garden anime for Netflix.
This means that they likely won’t be able to start production on Vinland Saga for at least the next 6 months, which itself pushes a potential premiere back until the latter end of 2021.
We will bring you updates on Vinland Saga as soon as new information is officially released, so keep checking in for the latest news.
