James Gunn teases fans with an exclusive first-look photo

‘The Suicide Squad’ magazine cover has been unveiled and it gives us our exclusive first look at the C-list team of outcasts.

After teasing fans with a lengthy sizzle reel at the DC FanDome event, James Gunn took to Twitter on Friday where he shared the latest cover of Empire Magazine featuring the cast of crazy characters from the highly anticipated film.

As revealed at the DC FanDome event in August, the new cast for ‘The Suicide Squad’ includes Idris Elba as Bloodsport, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, David Dastmalchian as Polka-Dot Man, Steve Agee as King Shark, and Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher, Michael Rooker as Savant, Nathan Fillion is T.D.K., Peter Capaldi as The Thinker, Alice Braga as Sol Soria, John Cena is Peacemaker, Joaquín Cosío is Mayor General Mateo Suarez, Jennifer Holland is Emilia Harcourt, Sean Gunn as Weasle, Storm Reid is Bloodsport’s daughter, Tyla, Flula Borg as Javelin, Pete Davidson as Blackguard, and Mayling Ng as Mongal.

Talking about ‘The Suicide Squad’, director James Gunn previously described the film as a 1970’s style war movie, adding that “The Suicide Squad is by far the most fun I’ve ever had making a movie,” and that he wished to include “great DC villains” in the film whether they were a part of Task Force X in the comics or not.”

Joel Kinnaman also reportedly said in an interview that the movie will be “heavily Rated-R” and a “f**king monster.”

“That movie is going to be insane. The script is so funny. Every page of that script was funny, and every page made me laugh. James just has this command of that genre, but also over every aspect of comedy and even the marketing,” he said at that time.

“He just understands the world so well, and since he wrote it, he really reinvents not just the concepts, but also the characters … It’s like heavily R-rated … That movie is going to be a f**king monster.”

The Suicide Squad is currently scheduled to his theaters on August 6, 2021.
