Mumbai: Mumbai police have registered an FIR against filmmaker Anurag Kashyap after actress Payal Ghosh accused him of sexual harassment. Kashyap has already termed the allegations as “baseless”.
The FIR was lodged at the Versova police station late on Tuesday night, September 22, after the actress’ lawyer Nitin Satpute lodged a complaint with the police, the official said. An FIR has been registered under sections 376 (i), 354, 341 and 342 of the Bhadavan Act, the official said. The matter is being monitored.
He said Kashyap would be called for questioning in the seven-year-old (2013) case. In her complaint, the actress accused Kashyap of raping her in 2013 at a place on Yeri Road in Versova. The actress and her lawyer went to the Oshiwara police station on Monday, September 21, the official said.
There he was told to go to the Versova police station because the incident is in the same judicial area. He went to Oshiwara police station as Kashyap’s office is in the area. Satput tweeted on Tuesday night that “an FIR has finally been lodged against the accused for misdemeanor, improper restraint and breach of a woman’s modesty.”
The actress tweeted on Saturday accusing Kashyap of sexual harassment. At the same time, Kashyap has denied the allegations, calling them an attempt to “silence” him. Kashyap’s lawyer tweeted, “My client Anurag Kashyap, who is surrounded by false allegations, is completely false and reprehensible.”
